Passover: the festival of freedom

Passover (Pesach) celebrates the exodus from Egypt and the passage from slavery to freedom. It is one of the most beloved holidays of the year.

What it is

For seven days no chametz (leaven) is eaten. On the first night the Seder is held, an ordered meal at which the Haggadah is read and the exodus is retold.

Customs

• Hold the Seder and read the Haggadah.
• Eat matzah (unleavened bread).
• Remove the chametz from the home.
• The four cups of wine and the children's questions.

In every generation, each person must see themselves as if they had personally left Egypt.
